Joining the PTSA is one of the easiest ways to make a real difference in your child’s school experience. Your membership helps fund programs, classroom resources, family events, and enrichment opportunities that benefit every student. It also strengthens the partnership between families and teachers, creating a more connected and supportive school community. You don’t have to volunteer your time to join, simply becoming a member shows your support and gives you a voice in what happens at our school.
The difference between PTA and PTSA is simple, PTA is Parent-Teacher Association and PTSA is a Parent-Teacher-Student Association. Both support school programs, fundraising, advocacy, and community building but PTSA adds student voice and leadership to the structure. For K–8 schools, a PTSA often makes sense because older students can actively participate.
The only thing required of you to be a member of PTSA is to pay the annual membership dues. Joining simply shows your support for the school and helps fund programs and resources that benefit students. While there are opportunities to volunteer or attend meetings if you’d like to be more involved, participation beyond membership is completely optional. Every membership makes a difference, whether you have time to give or not.
PTSA dues help fund essential school resources and curriculum needs. They help support advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels, impacting decisions affecting your child’s health, safety and quality of education.
PTSA provides schools access to experts, resources, trainings and dozens of nationally recognized educational enrichment programs that impact a child’s education such as the Family Reading Experience, in partnership with Reading is Fundamental. PTSA funds the nation's largest and longest running student arts program, Reflections®, which provides students access to arts, music, literature, dance, drama and visual arts. PTSA’s national advocacy efforts have helped establish universal kindergarten and the National School Lunch Program.
PTSA works to represent every child and family by keeping membership open to all, communicating in accessible ways, encouraging diverse leadership, and seeking input from the whole school community. Through transparency, inclusive programs, and a focus on equality, PTSA aims to ensure every voice is heard and every student benefits.
